Bella Smith

We lost our best friend suddenly on Friday July 27th when she got hit by a car in front of our house. We saw the whole thing and it was horrible. Here's a little about Bella, I could have went on and on about what she meant to us, but I had to keep it short. We loved her so much.

We adopted Bella in August of 2003 at the Animal Welfare Leauge in Chicago Ridge. We went there only to look and we saw this sad little puppy in her cage and we looked around a little more and then we left and got into our car. Matt and I went back and forth about that sad little dog in the cage and we decided to turn the car around and take another look at her. We fell in love with her and took her home with us. She was this scrawny, undernourished 4 month old puppy who was abandoned on the streets of chicago, she only weighed around 15lbs. Well did she turn out to be the best dog for us! You wouldn't say she was undernourished anymore, our big 84 pound dog.

Bella had such a personality on her, how she would always talk to you, we loved that about her. She always had to get the last word in, Matt and her would go on and on. She was great with all of the kids and with Sydney, she was so good. She loved playing with all of them. Bella got to enjoy lots of walks in the park and chasing squirrels and playing with her dog friends. She loved her walks!

Matt and I are going to miss how Bella was always so excited and happy to see you when you got home, even if you were gone for 5 minutes. I'm going to miss the thumping of her tail when she wanted to get pet and how it stopped when you pet her, when you stopped petting her you would hear Thump Thump and you had to pet her again. Matt's going to miss wrestling with her, she loved that, Matt had to stand a certain way and Bella knew it was go time. When Matt was done he had to say "OK OK Bella" and she would stop and wait for a treat. Bella we loved you so much and I hope you enjoyed us as much as we enjoyed you.

Sydney still gets up or when she gets out of the car and says "Dog Dog" and points and looks for Bella. It's so sad for us to see that. Bella even made an impact on our 1 year old daughter. Bella was supposed to be with us for another 8 years and grow up with Sydney. We're so sorry your life ended so early, it wasn't supposed to happen like that.

Bella you brought such a great happiness to our lives and we loved you so much, I'm glad we chose you. We had a great 4 years with you, we wish it was a lot more, and we will miss you so much. You were a one of a kind. Bella always remember you were and always will be a  "GOOD DOG".

I only met Bella a few times, but she left an impression on me the way that only truly great dogs can. I remember her being very expressive, just one of us humans, only with fur, she was not to be left out of the conversation! She and Matt could have a howling duet with the best of them. I'm so sorry, Amie, Matt, and Sydney, for this loss to your family. My thoughts are with all of you.

Dogs are family. You and Matt are the most loving owners a pet could ask for. Bella was wonderful -- a good match for two (now three) wonderful people. We will miss her. We love you guys so much. This site has made me cry in my office!

I'm so sorry for your loss. Bella was such a good dog. She was so friendly and energetic; always excited to see people. She was so lucky to have found you guys that day; she couldn't have ended up with a better family. Her life was cut short, but she's looking down on you now. She will be waiting for you guys to revisit her someday. Bella will always be remembered and missed. I love you guys. I'll just have you know that this made me cry my eyes out. This was such a beautiful thing to do to honor, Bella, your family.
