CC Sapia
CC is short for Close Call and we chose this name for our new little dog because she had a rough start in life. When she was around 8 months old she found herself dumped on a country road to fend for herself. She was soon hit by a car and seriously injured. A concerned passerby picked her up and took her to a nearby animal hospital where a kind vet stitched her up and put pins in her broken leg. As she was healing, the vet searched for someone to adopt this black and white ball of energy. This is how CC became a member of our family.
CC was very bright and quickly learned tricks, such as sit, stay, shake, sit up pretty, lie down, roll over, crawl and speak. From the beginning, it was obvious that CC had assigned herself certain responsibilities in the household that we didnt always understand. She took these self-appointed jobs very seriously and nothing could deter her from carrying them out.
For example, her most unusual chore was to protect anyone asleep from being awakened. Even guests in our home who felt the need for a nap could rest assured CC would stand ready to fend off interruptions.
Of course her barking and growling at the would-be interrupter usually woke up the sleeper but that didnt matter. Getting kids up for school was always fun because they couldnt possibly sleep through CCs barking and jumping around on the bed to keep me away.
She was a great watchdog. Her barking protected us from stray dogs and salesmen. And even though we had a cat, CC was our best mouser.
At the beach she barked and chased waves until they retreated. She would proudly prance back to us to get praise for her accomplishment until another pesky wave would come her way to be chased.
Every day was a good day in CCs world but when it snowed, CC was like a little kid. She would pester us to go outside and play with her. If the snow was deep, she would jump like a rabbit through the mounds of snow. She loved to chase snowballs and would dive into the snow to try to find snowballs.
CC was also an award-winner. She entered contests at fundraisers for the humane society in which she earned such prestigious awards as fastest dog and best kisser. Yes, even with pins in her leg she was very fast and loved to run. She would dodge and weave around you in the yard as you tried to keep up with her.
No matter where we went with CC, we always had a good time.
Coming home from work was always a pleasure because we knew CCs smiling face would be there to greet us. We loved her every bit as much as she loved us. We cherish the 17 years we had with her--the walks we shared, the trips to the beach, and the quiet times she would just cuddle with us.
When CC died, we lost a precious friend and companion who will always live in our hearts. Love you, CCtill we meet again.
