While on a trip to the pet food store in 1992, we first met Elizabeth "Lizzy" who was up for adoption from the county pound. She had just had a litter of puppies and her coat was thin. We were told this was her last day unless she was adopted. We made it out to the car and saw the pound truck pull up and went back in to take her home.
Lizzy fit into our family immediately and started growing stronger and more beautiful every day with a great thick coat of soft hair. She had a smile that would warm your heart and a tail hinged for wagging. With eyes closed lying on a dog bed in the back yard, her contentment was obvious as her tail continued to wag even though everyone else was in the house. Lizzy enjoyed many travel adventures and became the nurse dog in the family. Once during a campfire show by a park ranger in Utah, she saw a slide of a coyote and immediately got up and started barking at the apparent intruder. Luckily the park ranger was quick with the slides and advanced to next slide and she sat back down now that the danger had been addressed.
We love you and miss you terribly, Lizzy. You will always have a place in our hearts. We consider ourselves so fortunate to have been able to be part of your life. You displayed so many wonderful characteristics, such as unconditional love and loyalty. We wish you peace and say goodbye with heavy hearts. We will always love you.
