Flip

Flip wasn't my pet, he was my friend Esther's. He was a gorgeous black Lhapsa Apso with a lick of white on his chest. I had been looking after him after Esther fell and broke her hip and femur bone, for about a month. I took him into my family with gusto, having two dogs of my own and he quickly became part of the family. He was best friends in particular with Ollie, my Springer Spaniel and loved to play-fight and run about together. He was funny, sweet, cheeky and very cute!

On Christmas Eve just passed, my neighbours were walking their dogs past the house and as usual all three of my pooches ran barking at them at the gate at the side of the house. I thought nothing of it as this was a daily occurence.

My own two dogs came back indoors...but no Flip. Strange I thought. Anywhere my boys went Flip went too. Then I got a knock on the front door....

Flip had somehow managed to crawl under the gate and in doing so got knocked down by a neighbour's car. I ran screaming from the house to find Flip lying at the side of the road, still alive, but breathing erratically. Another neighbour guided me to a vets where Flip was taken immediately but sadly his little body gave up and he died at 2.30 pm.

My friend, Flip's mum, arrived just five minutes later. To say she is heartbroken is an understatement. I left her to say her goodbyes to him.

I entered the room and we hugged and cried and I said I was sorry to Flip and that I loved him with all of my heart.

I believe he is waiting for his mum at Rainbow Bridge.

This is my tribute to a wonderful little dog.

Rest in peace little man. We miss you.
