Jake Porter

Over 11 1/2 years ago, Jake was born into this world. Jake was supposedly the "runt" of the litter and a mixture of Rottweiler and Black Lab.   He was in need of a good home and was brought to Jason at just two months old.
His cute face made it easy to convince Jay's parents to let him stay.

The size of his paws should have been a sign that he would quickly grow to be a healthy 135 lbs.  Athough he was enormous, those who knew Jake continued to call him "Puppy".   He was never greedy and always left food in his bowl for the next day.   He was an avid walker and especially enjoyed the Wayland Junior High School and Callahan State Park.  Hiking Mount Washington and camping were also among Jake's favorite memories.

Puppy loved all vehicles, especially his first pick-up truck and his mom's new van.  As many of you know, Rachel bought a luxury mini-van for her aging boy! This soon became his favorite doghouse, where he would spend hours lounging with all of the doors open, some water and a few chicken strips.

Choosing to have him as the Best Man in our wedding was easy.   He was the best.

Jake was strong and battled recurrent mast cell carcinomas requiring 4 life saving surgeries over the years.  The most serious required the removal of one ear, gaining us manyadditional precious years with our pup.

In May, he was diagnosed with bone cancer in his right shoulder.  Although he was doing quite well, the cancer ultimately caused a spontaneous pathological and painful fracture that could not be fixed.  The three of us knew it was our last few hours together. Our time had come to say goodbye.  : (

Along with family and friends, Jason and Rachel loved Jakedog for for almost 12 years.

We would be honored if you wish to check out Jake's photo gallery (click on tabs above) or light a candle in his memory.

A very special thanks to Dr. Jaime Bloom.  Also, Wayland Animal Clinic, Vetcision and NEVOG for caring so greatly for him.  In his final moments at the emergency hospital, Dr. Bowman and Jess (the nurse) showed nothing but true compassion and love.

With true love comes pain and sadness. Nevertheless, the love is more plenty and powerful than any sadness you could ever have. It is so obvious you are the best parents that Jake could have. He was lucky to have your love. We all love you and support you. Live through it as Jake would want you to. Love Julie

Rachel and Jason,
I'm lighting this candle in memory of your big 'puppy' Jake. I am sure that Jake and Emma have met, otherwise how would we have connected...? Lots of love.

The world is a sadder place without you, dear Jake. You had to be about the most honest, and honorable dog I've ever met. ..and certainly one of the most loved. You were the the only dog Lady ever looked up to! She still stands and stares over at the old house hoping to catch a glimpse of her friend. You will be missed and remembered.

Rest well.

Rachel and Jay,
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss of your dear puppy :( . I think only with time can we begin to heal the deep pain we feel when we lose our loved ones. Now no longer in pain, Jake is in a better place. May he rest in peace. Love, Sharon

Rachie and Jay,
Jake was such a wonderful "pupps". He was very lucky to have 2 very loving parents to care for him as he aged. That picture of him and Jenna back in Dec is priceless. Always great with the kids! Love, Robin

I recently had to put our baby down for the cancer that ravaged his body. I feel so much for you and I understand your grief. Surely, angels share their toys with our babies as we await our reunions. Nothing so dear, could ever be gone forever.
