Kokoro

Kokoro was a stray with a mysterious past. He was completely declawed, without even the hind-claws so many people leave intact. He was also a not-so-common Liliac-Lynx point Siamese and an older cat, and one wonders how such an usual guy could become lost in the wild world.

We first saw his picture on the website of the Animal Care League of Oak Park in late 2002. We had been looking for a cat to join our first kitty, Lanty, and as I have a weakness for the Siamese guys, Koko, as he was named by the shelter, caught my eye right away. A visit to the ACL was frustrating as Koko was currently in quarantine due to an illness. On a second visit, he was in with the rest of the pet population, and I was in love. We brought him home on December 28, 2002.

In April, 2006 he was diagnosed with b-cell lymphoma in his tummy. He was an independent little guy who loved being alive, and fought a good fight. At about 11 0'clock Friday, June 23, we helped him move from this life into the next, and away from his suffering and pain. We will miss him so very much, but never forget his funny ways and the precious lessons he taught us about life, death, and the strength in letting go.

He was an unusual, remarkable, confounding, delightful little guy. I will miss his loud voice and whiny-cute requests for meals, his voracious appetite for his mush (canned food), his adorable "fake out" game of standing on a toy and pretending not to see it, then suddenly kicking it up with his back foot and attacking it as if it came out of nowhere, the way he curled up by my shoulder in his special spot on the bed, his fur getting everywhere, his loud loud rumbling purr - popping corn, as mom calls it - and even giving him injections and sub-q fluids and cleaning him and so many other endearing, difficult, silly, wonderful things that were unique to my little character.

In Japanese, kokoro means "heart," but not the heart in the chest. Rather it means the "heart and soul," the heart with which we love and long. My Kokoro was my heart and will always be in my heart and soul. I am so grateful and so much more for having known him.

Sometimes due to veterinarian bills or financial hardship, pet owners suffering from pet loss are unable or unwilling to pay for pet memorials.
It is very difficult for us at Immortal Pets to delete memorials especially one such as this.  We try to sponsor some of them temporarily while funds allow until the pet owner is able to contribute to the pet memorial or in some cases kind hearted pet owners make donations to help us keep pet memorials online.

If you wish to donate a small amount to help keep this or any other pet memorials alive please contact us at sponsormemorial@immortalpets.com
