Mia Ballenger

Mia, my sweet baby girl, was born late September 1999.  She was found in the woods by some teenages in Atlanta, Georgia.  She was one of four kittens who were only two weeks old, wet, cold and hungry.  The young girl who had Mia was not able to keep her and her mother had Mia brought to me.  She had lost her suck reflex so I had to learn from the vet how to tube feed her so she wouldn't starve.  This didn't last long as she suffered from some digestive problems.  The vet's office worker are foster homes for momma cats with kittens.  Fortunately, I was able to place her with one of the foster moms so she could get the necessary nutrition that she needed.  I got her back when she was six weeks old and my how she had changed.  She was quite the active kitten.  I was only going to keep her long enough to find her a home, but she had other plans for me.  When I got her back she had ringworm, so I had to confine her to one of the spare bedrooms and set up her own little room.  I felt so bad for her being by herself that I would make a bed out of blankets and sleep with her every other night.  I also had to give her two bathes and that was quite the challenge.  But, she (and I) survived and after two weeks she was able to join the rest of the crew and they were not too happy about that.  Her favorite thing (till she got to big) was climbing my pant legs so she could be held or sit on my neck and shoulder.  She was a monkey!  Through her eight years here on earth she was a great companion and friend.  She loved to torment her brother Pickles and of course he dished it back to much to her surprise.  On November 13th, she lost the use of her back legs due to a degenerative spinal disease that I did not know she had.  After trying some medication, she was not any better and was in much pain.  I had to make the painful decision to let her go.  She passed around 11:30am November 15th.  She was a great joy and brought much happiness to my life.  She will be missed very much.

I remember when I met Mia. She was a beautiful Siamese with a very individual personality. Shongay is a muslim word that means as a lioness. Everything about Mia was very Shongay. She was very firm and demanded respect yet to a chosen few she was a very caring companion. I am glad I had the honor of meeting Mia and I pray that she is now in peace.

With Love and Respect,
Angelia

Hi - After just losing my own cat, Coco. Started looking through the sight and came across your page. I can only say how sorry I am to hear about all those out there who lose their pets, and especially cats, as I feel there is less understanding about the bond that we build with them. Anyway, my deepest sympathy goes out to you. I only hope that time has brought back lots of happy memories as well as the bad-Julie Perry
