Sascha Chandler

I got Sascha when she was about 5 months old. I went to see a litter of pups. Most were shy. I sat on the floor and rolled a tennis ball, she went for it and as she came back, I took it rolled it again and she got it and brought it back to me. The third time I took the ball, she climbed on my lap and kissed me. That was it, she was mine. The breeder gave her a last name, Schwanebeck and we gave the first name, Aleksasch. So her AKC registration is Aleksasch Schwanebeck, and her nickname became Sascha. I kept Sascha in a crate in the kitchen when I wasnt home and in my bedroom overnight. After about a week and a half or so, one night she jumped on the bed, laid down, so I let her say. We've spent every night together after that. At times, she would go up to bed before me and go to sleep. If you go to the last picture in the galley, "Done for the Night", read the description. Sascha loved to swim in the quarry. We swam there for the time she was 3 years old. Once we got on the road to the quarry, she would bark all the way till we got there. When let her out of the car and she was gone, ran down the path to the quarry and stood at the waters edge waiting for me to come and throw a stick in for her to retrieve. Sascha loved to run with other dogs. We would go to Kingston Point Park. Usually there were anywhere from a few dogs to a dozen. She would taunt a dog to get it to chase her, and they would run and play as other dogs joined in. She loved the chase. Sascha loved the back deck. She spent many hours scanning neighbor's yard for cats. Once a cat crossed a neighbors yard, she dashed off the deck barking all the way to the fence and barked till the cat was gone. Sascha loved to ride in the car. I took her almost every place I went, even just a few blocks to the store. She was always alert for when I was going out. I would pick up my car keys and she would run for the door or say "I have to go to the store" and she would run to the door. Even if she was on the deck or in the yard, she heard the ring of the keys and came running. She mostly lay down in the back seat. Except going to the park for our walk or to the Quarry. Then she was in the front seat, hanging out the window, barking. Our daily routine was three walks a day. Morning, around 3:30 and before bed. If I was watching TV past 10:30pm, she would come over and sit in front of me and stare at me. Id say,Time to GO? or "Time for the Walk" and she would run to the door. She loved being scared. Ryan would hide on the stairs as Sascha was coming in the back door. He would jump out at her and she would jump then start running around the table with Ryan chasing her. It was fun to watch. During the summer, the back door was always open for her to go out when ever she wanted. Every time one of my friends would come over, she would run out the back door and out in the yard and start barking, waiting either Ryan, Chris, Jay or Pat to go out back with her and either play frisbee or throw sticks for her. And if the back door was closed, she would stand there and bark till they came and played. Her favorite toy was her Frisbee. She would carry that almost everywhere she went. We would play every day. She was great at leaping and catching. As you look at the gallery, youll see her with her Frisbee. A few days after she past away, I got a helium balloon, wrote some phrases on it including, ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN. I released it at her favorite park. It went straight up and up and up. It went so high it became as small as a dime and I lost sight of it. I never ever saw a helium balloon go straight up. You'll find pictures of the balloon at the end of the gallery. Wish I could add a short video of the balloon sailing up. I miss her so and will always keep her in my heart. I am grateful for the constant care and devotion of Sascha'a vet, Dr. Mark Rosenburg of the Hurley Veterinary Hospital in Kingston, NY, and Specialist Dr. Glennon of the Surgery/Captial District Veterinary Surgical Assoc. in Pattersonville, NY, Dr. Joseph of the Animal Specialty Center in Yonkers, NY, and especially Dr. Starr Cameron and staff at the Cornell University Veterinary School of Medicine.

I miss you Sasch, I'm always looking for you in your favorite spot by the window in Stan's house. You were such a sweetheart, I wish I had known you when you were in better health. Know that you're in our thoughts. I know that, in your case especially, "all dogs go to heaven." <3
