Wilfy

Please walk away from this little memorial having reconsidered your opinion of rats. If you think that they are evil, biting, dirty things with horrible tails - then you never met Wilfy. Wilfy was the best companion I could have asked for. I've always had pets, hamsters, mice, dogs, cats - but y'know, I had the strongest bond I've ever had with Wilfy. It's like people really, some you love, some you hate, some are fine but some are really, really special. I found him in a feeder breeders pet shop - destined for a snake. He wasn't a baby anymore and the petshop owner was about to give him to a huge lizard for tea. "Come back in a week and I can get you a baby rat" she said. But I wanted Wilfy - he looked scruffy and he was so scared of me at first. I work from home and when he first arrived here - he sat at the end of my desk staring at me, he had a little foam kennel that he hid in and he looked terrified - he didn't bite me though. Over a few weeks he came to trust me and soon we were eating porridge together in the mornings - and he became glued to my side. He would do a trip around his favourite places and then climb up my leg and sit with me all day - chirping. When he was younger he would play, and skip around, as he got older, he just wanted to sit curled up with me - he was incredibly cuddly and he hated being put on the floor or table, he wanted to stay on my shoulder or knee always. And I wish he could have done. His last trip around his favourite places was very doddery, he stumbled a lot before reaching his favourite step. But we sat there together for a little while and he was even kind enough not to complain about watching the whole box set of Margaret Rutherford playing Miss Marple with me!! I slept on the floor in my sleeping bag with him a few times through the night in his last days. If you'd known him - I know you'd have loved him. All my love to Wilfy - the best companion, a wonderful friend. xxxxT

Dear Wilfy we wish we could have read a Beatrix Potter book with you while you sat on T's knee. Sprout some wings and come for a visit.

Wilf was a lovely little chap who would often venture out of his den just to welcome me home from work! He had the most gentle of personalities and was a top companion for T.

Wilfy sounds like a wonderful companion and he obviously loved you as much as you loved him.

I'm sure he is happy scampering around in heaven with lots of lovely memories of your time together.

Best wishes,

Amanda

I never had a rat before, but I did have a hamster and I know what great little friends these small little animals can be! They're misunderstood and only the lucky people get to have them as friends! I wish I could have met your little friend! RIP!!

Wilfy, Sadly I didn't know you, but you sound great, and I know your Mommy misses you. I feel for you, I have always loved rats.
I hope my Dog, and Wilfy are playing in pet heaven right now

Wilfey sounded like a wonderful companion. He sounded much like my rat Oscar (who is on here). May both Wilfey and Oscar rest peacefully wherever they may be.

My dad had a pet rat when he was a kid and although he is 60 years old now he still speaks fondly of him; my granny does as well so those little guys make a lasting impression. RIP Wilfy.
