Benny came into our lives at 8 weeks he wasn't the cute brown &white that Mel had his heart set on but he had talked for several years about getting a shih tzu so I talked him in  to going  and view the black & white ones, I lied and said yes 1 had brown in it well it was love at first sight for Mel, his little Ben was a black &white not a bit of brown right from the start he was Mel's dog I was tolerated , Mel is a trucker so Ben the first year stayed home but whenever  Mel left on a trip there were actual tears running down bennys face hence Mel started taking him every where they were together 24/7 Ben went on hunting trips and when he took him grouse hunting the first couple of times Ben would just watch while dad shot and retrieved the birds, one day he was so excited after Mel got out of truck & Mel said let him go , out went Ben like a shot , 5 minutes later  with the bird held high came Ben sliding down the hill to bring it to Mel's feet .Benny was a talker and Mel understood every thing that dog wanted at  8 pm Sharpe on the road Ben let him know it was time to hit the hay , if i was cooking pasta, Ben's favorite he would not  stop talking till you piled his dish high, Ben started to slow down when he hit 9 he would only go on occasion,he found himself with a new job  as we have  2 girls and  Joe our little stud,( Ben   was neutered)   when one of the girls gave birth he took on the role as proud papa he had to watch the whole birthing process the girls allowed  only Ben the prestigious position  he was allowed to sit at the edge of the pen to guard if Mel wasn't home at the time as soon as he came home  there was Ben talking up a storm you would have thought he was bragging their mine  one Monday morning as Mel was getting ready for work Benny went and stood by the jeep wagging his tail i said you want to go this trip don't you  Mel took him saying we will see you Thurs .afternoon Tues night Mel called to say Benny wasn't himself, i said I will take him to the vets Thursday when you get back  wed night Mel called said there wasn't any improvement but he would try and get back tonight ,so I could take him first thing in the morning  I heard Mel come in he never said anything so i thought every thing was okay I fell back to sleep &  in the morning Mel was out walking the dogs as he always did when he was home  i got up and went and asked how Ben was  he turned and with tears running down his face said about 2 hours before he got home Ben jumped up in the passenger seat looked at him jumped back down and passed away  we miss that little tzu with heart of a lion  and the tenacity of a rottweiler the link below is to the artist whom did this awesome portrait of our ben www.colettetheriault.com
